Video evidence

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

Now I’ve got a wired connection I can post these two videos I took at about six in the morning. I was trying to get a sound recording of the Audis but it would have been hard convinvcing people that there was actually a car going past, so I’ve got video to prove it.  (You’ll really need to turn the sound right up to appreciate these fully.)

Silent assassin

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

No change in the last hour and the two Audis slowed down for a formation finish past the chequered flag. This year’s race will go in down in history as the arrival of the modern diesel performance engine, the nearly silent Audis were the talking point of the weekend and their fuel economy allowed them to run two to three laps longer before refuling meaning that over the course of the 24 hours they spent less time stationary, enhancing their speed advantage.

One hour to go…

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

No change in the top three in LMP1 but Corvette have taken the lead from Aston in GT1. MG still lead LMP2 and GT2 is now lead by Panoz after the number 83 Porche limps into its pit just below us on the main grandstand.

Back in the grand stands

Just over an hour until the end now, with the Audi looking like a cert.

Lap 309 - 4:30 to go.

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

No change in the top four positions Audi, Pescarolo, Audi, Aston. The third place Audi is the fastest car on the track but with an eight lap deficit to the Pescarolo its not looking like an Audi 1-2.

10:20 on day two.

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

Audi 8 leads the Pescarolo by three laps with the second Audi in third, eight laps down after the Dome retired at six this morning. The 009 Aston leads GT1 but the number 64 Corvette is closing them down.

Half distance

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

The first light of dawn is brightening the sky and the leader board holds steady.

Four in the AM

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

In just one lap the number 7 Audi has put the length of the start finish straight between itself and its nearest rival. Meanwhile the number 8 car is in the pits and the mechanics are changing the gearbox. With only two laps in hand over the Pescarolo that’s just pitted the Audi crew have done a superb job in getting it out again with less than half a lap’s time lost.

Lap 106

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

The number 8 Audi is leading a Pescarolo by one lap with the Racing for Holland Dome third. Alan McNish in his second stint of a triple has pulled the second Audi up to fourth after it lost over 20 minutes when the fuel injection system was replaced. The MG still lead the LMP2 and Corvette lead the GT1. I’m not sure who’s leading GT2, probably one of the myriad Porches that are circulating.

First hour

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

It seems to be following the script so far, the two velvety quiet Audi’s have been out in front scrapping for the lead but there’s now a Pescarolo up in the mix with them after the pit stops. In GT1 Aston 007 has lost time to an oil leak. Following this race is like juggling on a unicycle whilst crossing a tight rope as you have to know who’s racing who and which lap they are on.
