Sunday, June 18th, 2006No change in the last hour and the two Audis slowed down for a formation finish past the chequered flag. This year’s race will go in down in history as the arrival of the modern diesel performance engine, the nearly silent Audis were the talking point of the weekend and their fuel economy allowed them to run two to three laps longer before refuling meaning that over the course of the 24 hours they spent less time stationary, enhancing their speed advantage.

Meanwhile the number 8 car is in the pits and the mechanics are changing the gearbox. With only two laps in hand over the Pescarolo that’s just pitted the Audi crew have done a superb job in getting it out again with less than half a lap’s time lost.
